How Does Therapy Work?

When should someone see a therapist?

The simple answer? Anytime that it feels right for you.

There's no threshold you need to reach, no crisis you need to be in, no "right" moment you need to wait for. Therapy isn't just for the hardest chapters of life. Therapy is there to support you whenever and however you need it.

You don't have to be struggling to benefit. Many people come to therapy proactively. Whether they want to build coping skills, strengthen self-confidence, or simply invest in their emotional wellbeing before life gets hard, it is a great resource and tool. Think of it the way you might think of staying physically active and movement; you don’t want to wait until you are unwell to take care of your body. The same is true for your mind. Therapy is self-care for your mind.

Life transitions are one of the most common reasons people reach out. Starting university. Getting married. Navigating illness. Processing a significant loss. These moments, good or bad, can shake your sense of self and your sense of purpose or direction. Therapy can help you find your footing, identify your strengths, and develop practical strategies for moving forward with confidence.

Therapy can help you:

  • Work through a specific challenge or life transition

  • Build self-esteem and self-confidence

  • Develop new skills for managing stress, anxiety, or difficult emotions

What happens in therapy?

In therapy we have conversations that are honest, unhurried, and entirely centered on you. Together, we explore what's been happening in your life, connect the patterns between your thoughts and behaviours, and work toward changes that help you cope more effectively. You bring the lived experience and challenges. I bring the tools, the perspective, and the questions that help you see your situation differently.

I believe you are the expert on your own life. My role is to walk alongside you and help you to develop insight but not to tell you what to do. I help you discover what's possible.

Whether you're looking for long-term support or just a single session to think through a situation, you're welcome here. Reach out anytime.
